GGNI International BV

Managing Partner, Global Gas Networks Initiative (GGNI)

Now Managing Partner at Global Gas Networks Initiative, Huub was GGNI’s Managing Director prior to the management buy-out from its initial owners. After joining Gasunie in 2006, he led the Norwegian gas project to extend the GNE pipeline to the Netherlands. Upon this project being abandoned by the Norwegian government, Huub became the Commercial Manager for GATE. In this project, a Gasunie-VOPAK team constructed an LNG receiving terminal in the Port of Rotterdam.

Once the FID for GATE was made and Gasunie became a shareholder in Nord Stream, Huub was chosen to become the Gasunie Envoy for Northern Europe. In this position, he fostered public support in the Baltic Sea region for the construction and operation of the Nord Stream pipeline, aimed at transporting Russian natural gas to Germany.

As Marine Engineering and Business Administration graduate, Huub started his career at Shell Tankers as a Marine Engineer in 1977. He then entered the Oil & Gas Upstream industry, where he held various executive positions revolving around production & maintenance, as well as project management for both onshore and offshore projects in the Netherlands and Norway. Huub also held executive positions at global oil corporations and offshore construction & service companies, while having completed various postgraduate courses in Operations Research and Environmental Economics.

In 2010, Huub was installed as the Managing Director of the Global Gas Networks Initiative (GGNI) B.V., founded as per the recommendation of the Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs. Then owned by Dutch energy transport and energy distribution corporations, GGNI was founded to further expand the international reputation of the Netherlands as an expert country for the worldwide gas industry.

Global Gas Networks Initiative has been developed into a network organization specialized in developing security of energy supply within the symbioses of traditional and renewable energy sources. The GGNI network partners are carefully selected worldwide operating experts and service providers for the energy sector.
